Pianoteq 9 Standard is the mainstream edition of Modartt's physically modeled piano and the version most players settle on, adding extensive instrument customization and microphone control to the same real-time modeling engine found throughout the Pianoteq range. Because the piano is calculated rather than sampled, the parameters that define its character are genuinely adjustable: hammer hardness, string length, soundboard properties, unison detuning, sympathetic resonance, and more all respond as physical properties of the modeled instrument rather than as effects applied to a recording. Change the hammer hardness and the tone changes the way it would after a technician voices the hammers on a real piano.

Standard adds adjustable microphone positioning, letting you place virtual microphones around the instrument to move between an intimate close perspective, a natural player position, and a distant room sound. Morphing and layering let you blend two instruments into a hybrid or stack them for larger textures, a capability that is only possible because the sound is generated rather than played back. The edition includes the standard set of instrument presets covering grand and upright pianos plus additional keyboard instruments, with the full Pianoteq library of add-on instrument packs available separately. Standalone and plugin operation, comprehensive MIDI support, adjustable temperaments, and a small disk footprint make it equally suited to the studio, the stage, and daily practice.

Adjust the Instrument as a Physical Object

Hammer hardness, string length, soundboard behavior, unison width, and sympathetic resonance are exposed as editable physical parameters, so voicing the instrument to your taste works the way it does on a real piano rather than through EQ and effects. Every adjustment carries through the full dynamic range naturally.

Microphone Positioning, Morphing, and Layering

Virtual microphone placement lets you dial in the perspective a track needs, from close and detailed for pop production to distant and roomy for classical recording. Morphing between instruments creates hybrid pianos that do not exist physically, and layering stacks instruments for larger, richer textures.
