Steinberg SpectraLayers Elements 13 brings the latest generation of Steinberg's spectral audio editing technology to an affordable license aimed at producers, podcasters, video editors, and home studio users. Rather than editing a flat waveform, you work with a detailed frequency image of your audio, which makes it possible to find and remove a specific unwanted sound while leaving the surrounding performance completely intact. A cough during a vocal take, a door slam behind an interview, a hum under a guitar track: each of these becomes a visible object you can select and delete, instead of a problem that forces a re-record.

Elements 13 includes machine-learning unmixing that separates a finished stereo file into distinct editable layers such as vocals and instrumental backing, opening up remixing, content repurposing, practice tracks, and sampling workflows on material where you only have the final mix. Everyday repair tools cover broadband noise, hum, and clicks so that phone recordings, location audio, and archival material can be cleaned up to a usable standard. SpectraLayers Elements 13 runs as a standalone application and integrates with Cubase and Nuendo through ARA 2, letting you make spectral edits directly in your project timeline.

Edit Sound by Frequency, Not Just by Time

The high-resolution spectral display shows exactly where each sound sits in frequency and time, so problems that are hard to hear in isolation become obvious on screen. Selection tools borrowed from image editing let you lasso, brush, and box-select any region of the spectrum, then attenuate or remove just that region. The result is repair work that is effectively invisible in the finished audio.

Unmix Finished Tracks into Editable Layers

The unmixing engine analyzes a completed stereo mix and splits it into separate layers you can solo, mute, process, and export on their own. This makes it practical to create instrumental versions, isolate a vocal for a remix, or rebalance an element that was mixed too loud, all from a file that was never intended to be taken apart.
