Toontrack EZKeys Vintage Upright is a virtual instrument plug-in that features samples of the ??stlind & Almquist piano, a classic Swedish brand dating back to the 1800s that is highly regarded for capturing the essence of the timbre in a well-built upright piano. The plug-in combines a palette of functions designed to aid in songwriting and music production, including a chord selector, an extensive MIDI library and more. The software is compatible with Mac and Windows and maybe used as a stand-alone instrument or within an Audio Unit, VST or RTAS host application.

The featured ??stlind & Almquist upright piano was built in the 1930s and has been meticulously sampled at Studio 9 in Sweden, using the best in vintage and modern recording equipment. Designed for an accurate dynamic response, EZkeys Vintage Upright provides a realistic feel akin to its real-life vintage counterpart. Also, the selections of presets are designed to be mix-ready without extensive tweaking.

To aid in songwriting, the package comes with an extensive MIDI library performed by a professional session pianist. It features passages covering many genres including rock, pop, country, gospel, blues and funk. The MIDI passages can be dragged and dropped into EZkeys for playback, transposition and further manipulation. Also, the EZkeys Chord Wheel selector allows you to customize the chord voicing and add harmonic color with the click of a mouse.

Preset

• The included signal chain presets are based on high quality effects from Overloud. Effects used range from reverb to tape simulation and distortion. You can adjust each preset by using a set of controls that will affect the individual parameters.
• Standard: The default and all-round sound maintains the natural tone of the piano. Controls for EQ and reverb
• Raw Tweaks: A true bypass preset that represents what the piano sounded like from the raw recording
• Concert: For when the piano plays the leading role and is allowed to take up space in a song, still preserving the natural acoustic qualities of the sampled instrument
• Living Room: Gives you the feel of an old piano in a living room. Controls for adjusting EQ, ambience and room size
• Ballad Piano: A slightly brighter and more reverberant sound. Controls for the EQ and reverb amounts
• High and Low: The separate high and low cut filers let you decide the frequency range and sonic size of the piano. Along with the ambience control, it effectively moves the piano back and forth in the mix
• Tape recorded: Analog tape does things to a piano that works well in a mix, so we could not resist this preset. Taylor it with controls for tape saturation, body and ambience
• Glam Ballad: Inspired by the '70s. The chorus and delay parameters take the sound from rock to ballad
• Vintage Boogie: Old school hi-fi. Goes from mellow but clear to sharp, without sounding harsh. Control the amount and the size of the room
• Honky Tonk: This preset emulates an old bar room piano. With the EQ on max, you get a sound close to a tack-piano with nails in the hammers. The detuning and piano noise knobs lets you decide the amount of maintenance this piano has seen over the years
• Electrified: Utilizing the subtle but effective harmonic and dynamic goodness of running the piano through a 100 watt tube amp on a low gain setting. Phaser, reverb and attack controls
